Online Mentoring Program
Unit 191 (Durham/Chapel Hill, mainly) and Unit 119 are planning to offer a unique online mentoring program starting in September. Unlike mentor-mentee games that have been offered in Raleigh and Durham in the past (and are still offered in Raleigh), the online game will be structured as follows:
- Mentees (with less than 500 points) will play with other mentees rather than a mentor, the traditional approach in Mentor-Mentee games.
- Mentees may register for the program as a partnership or as an individual - in the latter case, singles will be matched with other singles.
- Each mentee pair will be matched with a mentor, who will review the pair's game and provide written comments for the mentees on bidding, defense, and declarer play.
- Games will be scheduled at 7 pm on BBO the third Wednesday of each month, starting September 17. The cost for each player will be $8, $5 for BBO/ACBL admin and $3 will be dedicated to a charity/charities selected by Unit 191 and Unit 119.
Next Steps:
- The program is managed by Michael Lavine in Unit 191. All correspondence should be .
- For interested mentees, please send an email to Michael with the following information for pairs or individuals: First and Last Name, ACBL #, BBO name, and email address for each player (to facilitate communications with the assigned mentor).
- We will be recruiting mentors as well to support the program. If players in your clubs are interested in serving as a mentor, they should also contact Michael. Mentors may indicate a preference to mentor a specific pair or they will be assigned to a pair on an as needed basis.
- Once mentees and mentors have contacted Michael, he will provide additional information as needed, for example: how the game will be listed on BBO, information for singles to contact their partner and post a convention card on BBO, information for each trio of mentees and mentor to enable them to introduce themselves.
